Robots are already here — but not the ones you fear

When you made coffee this morning, took the elevator down, and withdrew cash from an ATM, you already used robots three times. They just do not look like the ones in films — and that is the whole point.

The robot no one notices

The word “robot” conjures a humanoid machine with glowing eyes. But real robots have long been all around us and look boring: a dishwasher, an aircraft autopilot, a factory machine, an algorithm that dispatches taxis. A robot is not a body but an automated decision. And there is a rule: the less noticeable a robot is, the better it works.

Why the real revolution is quiet

We wait for a “revolt of the machines” and miss the real change: the world is already rebuilt around invisible automation on which food, transport, and money depend. That is convenient — and it is also a new vulnerability. A society where everything rests on automation breaks not from a robot uprising, but from one quiet failure no one thought about in advance.

My opinion: what to fear is not a robot with a face, but our own habit of not questioning the automation to which we have entrusted our lives. The wise person asks not “will the machines rise up,” but “what happens if this boring system stops one day?”
