Kazakhstan and Germany discuss industry and transport links
The meeting covered investment, local production and connections between European and Asian markets.
Deputy Prime Minister and National Economy Minister Serik Zhumangarin met German Ambassador Heike Peitsch, the government reported on 23 October. Investment, industrial cooperation and transport connectivity were on the agenda.
The statement put last year’s bilateral trade at $4.5 billion, up 13.4%, and cited more than 1,100 enterprises with German capital operating in Kazakhstan. These describe existing ties, not newly signed contracts from this meeting.
The participants discussed expanding production, increasing localisation and involving Kazakhstani suppliers. Transport discussions included southbound Central Asian links and a railway project under consideration through Afghanistan towards Pakistan.
The parties agreed to continue cooperation. The update does not establish that the railway is built or fully financed. Subsequent agreements, implementation schedules and commercial conditions will determine the projects’ practical effects.
