Kazakhstan prosecutor reports fall in recorded offences

The prosecutor’s office says recorded criminal offences fell 14.6% over the first nine months of 2026; the figure needs context.

Prosecutor General Berik Asylov presented figures for the first nine months of 2026 at a meeting with Kazakhstan’s president on 20 October. According to his report, recorded criminal offences fell by 14.6% against the comparable period, including decreases of 22.3% in public places and 20.1% on streets.

The office also described measures against online fraud and drug crime. It said rights had been restored for 413,000 citizens in socioeconomic matters, including labour rights for more than 200,000 workers. These are figures from the agency’s own report, not an independent assessment.

A decline in recorded cases does not necessarily equal the same decline in actual crime. Reporting rates, registration practices and counting methods affect the series. Victimisation surveys, clearance rates and public confidence are also needed to assess safety.
