Gavi and UNICEF agree lower malaria vaccine price
RTS,S/AS01 is expected to cost €5.50 per dose, about 40% less, subject to regulatory and manufacturing milestones.
Gavi and UNICEF announced an agreement on 22 October to reduce the price of the RTS,S/AS01 malaria vaccine by approximately 40%, to €5.50 per dose. Expected savings for 2027–2029 are around $50 million.
The lower price is expected by early 2027. Procurement depends on manufacturing and regulatory milestones, including WHO prequalification of a new production facility. The announcement therefore does not mean an immediate price cut in every country.
The partners estimate that savings could fund a full course for another million children, or support other vaccines. WHO stresses that malaria vaccination complements other preventive measures, including protection against mosquitoes.
