150 athletes, 12 sports: Kazakhstan begins its Asian Para Games campaign

The flag was raised in Japan ahead of the October 18 opening in Aichi–Nagoya. Some competitions have already begun.

Kazakhstan’s flag was raised at a welcome ceremony for delegations to the fifth Asian Para Games in Japan, Kazinform reported on October 17 citing the national sports committee. The country is sending 150 athletes across 12 sports. The Games run October 18–24 in Aichi Prefecture and Nagoya, although para table tennis began on October 16.

Paralympic para-athletics bronze medallist Dastan Mukashbekov and world para-judo champion Ayala Mereke are expected to carry Kazakhstan’s flag at the opening parade. The ceremony is scheduled for October 18 at Nagoya’s Mizuho stadium. At publication time, that is a forthcoming event, not a completed one.

Why watch

Para sport has its own elite competition, training and classification, rather than being an appendix to another event. Medals matter, but attention to athletes also raises a question at home: how accessible are training venues, transport and sports facilities to people with disabilities?

Results should be reported only when confirmed. Readers can check the Games’ official schedule and support competitors without awarding medals in advance.
