Kazakhstan explains phased electronic entry authorisation

QazETA will be recommended during a transition period for covered visa-free visitors; mandatory use is planned from 1 July 2027.

Kazakhstan’s embassy published guidance on 20 October about the phased introduction of electronic entry authorisation for certain foreign citizens travelling without a visa. The system starts at Aktau airport and selected road crossings on 1 November 2026, extends to Astana and Almaty airports on 1 January 2027 and to remaining crossings on 1 March. Applying remains recommended through 30 June 2027; it becomes mandatory for covered travellers from 1 July 2027.

Applications are submitted through QazETA at least 72 hours before travel. The permit is free and valid for 180 calendar days, but it does not extend the permitted length of stay. Exemptions include children under 16, people aged 65 or older, and holders of a valid Kazakh visa or residence permit.

Travellers should check their category, documents and the latest official instructions before departure. Authorisation does not replace other migration requirements or guarantee admission.
