
Kazakhstan and the OSCE look ahead to Lugano: what was discussed in Astana?
Kazakhstan’s deputy foreign minister met a special representative of the OSCE chairperson. They discussed the December ministerial council in Lugano and ways to build trust. This was a diplomatic exchange, not a newly agreed peace deal.
Deputy Foreign Minister Arman Isetov met Serge Rumin, special representative of the OSCE chairperson, on 5 October. According to Kazakhstan’s foreign ministry, they discussed the Swiss chairmanship’s priorities and preparations for the December foreign ministers’ council in Lugano.
The agenda
Topics included confidence building, current international issues, interfaith dialogue and cooperation in Central Asia. Kazakhstan highlighted its Congress of Leaders of World and Traditional Religions.
What has not happened
The ministry reported interest in further contacts and exchanges. It announced neither a concrete conflict settlement nor an agreed outcome for the December meeting. The next test will be the council’s official agenda and results.
