Over 180 Kazakh peacekeepers train in humanitarian law before planned UN duties
The two-day course in Almaty Region prepared personnel for possible Golan Heights mission tasks in 2027.
Kazakhstan’s Defence Ministry said on 14 October that more than 180 officers and sergeants had completed two days of training at the Bitimger centre in Almaty Region. Experts from the International Committee of the Red Cross helped teach international humanitarian law. The personnel are preparing for duties in a UN mission in the Golan Heights in 2027.
Why the law matters
Humanitarian law sets rules for protecting civilians and others not taking part in fighting. The ministry says trainees worked through commanders’ responsibilities, the mission mandate and practical scenarios. This is a report on preparation, not an announcement that a new contingent has deployed.
What remains to be tested
The course also distinguished the mandates of the Red Cross and the UN. Classroom knowledge must be tested through exercises, discipline and decisions within the mission’s authority. The statement does not establish that every participant has been selected for a particular rotation.
