New resort complex opens at 2,140 metres in Kazakhstan’s Oi-Qaragai
Almaty Region has opened a hotel, restaurant and conference complex on Aktas peak while extending ski runs.
Almaty Region’s administration reported on 14 October that a new complex had opened at the Oi-Qaragai resort on Aktas peak, 2,140 metres above sea level. It includes a hotel, restaurant and conference hall. Construction took two years, and the administration puts investment in the project at 58 billion tenge.
Beyond another hotel
The resort’s ski and snowboard runs have expanded from 28 to 38 kilometres, according to the administration. Visitors gain more routes, while the region may gain longer stays and demand for local services. The investment figure alone, however, says nothing about occupancy or payback. Those questions require operating results after opening.
Before travelling
Weather changes quickly at this altitude. Check the resort’s current trail status, lift operations and access rules before setting off. Opening a building does not mean every winter route is already open.
