Kazakhstan opens 28 km of the Aktobe–Ulgaysyn highway

Traffic has begun on kilometres 791–819 of the Western Europe–Western China corridor, while the wider reconstruction continues.

On 21 October, First Deputy Prime Minister Nurlibek Nalibayev attended the opening of a 28-kilometre section of the Aktobe–Ulgaysyn road in Aktobe Region. The stretch from kilometre 791 to 819 belongs to the Western Europe–Western China transport corridor.

It is one part of a larger 262-kilometre reconstruction designed to upgrade the road from category II to category I. The government says three road projects across Aktobe, Mangystau and Kyzylorda regions envisage building or rebuilding more than 1,900 kilometres, with roughly 3 trillion tenge allocated.

Major construction on the newly opened section is complete, but lighting and barriers are due to be installed within two weeks. A commission is reviewing construction materials and truck axle loads. Opening this 28-kilometre stretch does not mean the whole 262-kilometre project is finished.
