KASE Index Falls 0.83%: Which Stocks Pulled Kazakhstan’s Market Lower on September 28
The Kazakhstan Stock Exchange index closed September 28 at 7,721.69 points, down 0.83%, while turnover in index shares increased to KZT 792.4 million. Kazatomprom, Kaspi.kz, and KazTransOil were among the largest decliners. Here is why one session should not be confused with a lasting trend.
Session results
The KASE Index lost 64.40 points to close at 7,721.69, down 0.83%. Turnover in index shares rose 11.8% to KZT 792.4 million. Kazatomprom fell 4.4%, Kaspi.kz 1.2%, and KazTransOil 1.4%, while Halyk Bank, Kcell, and Kazakhtelecom ended higher.
Why turnover rose as prices fell
Volume shows how much changed hands; the index reflects price movements adjusted for component weight and free float. Heavy selling can increase turnover and lower the market simultaneously. A large component also matters more than a small one.
One day is not a trend
After the session, the index remained 9.8% above the start of the year and 8.1% higher than 365 days earlier, despite losing 5% over a month. Time horizon, risk, and company-specific causes matter. This explains market statistics and is not investment advice.
