Two gas plants at Kashagan: Kazakhstan sets out the timetable for Qatar-backed projects
The government detailed planned processing capacity of 1 and 2.5 billion cubic metres a year and the stages of a major gas pipeline.
Prime Minister Olzhas Bektenov met Power International Holding executives on 15 October to review joint gas and telecommunications projects. The government set out the status of two planned gas-processing plants at Kashagan, designed for annual capacities of 1 billion and 2.5 billion cubic metres.
Construction and installation are under way at the first plant, with main equipment deliveries nearly complete. Commissioning is planned for 2027. An EPC contractor has been selected for the second plant, whose completion is scheduled for 2030. These are target dates, not announcements that either facility is operating.
The parties also discussed a second line of the Beineu–Bozoy–Shymkent gas pipeline, with stages planned for 2027 and 2029. The projects’ economic value will depend on actual delivery dates, costs and utilisation after launch. Those indicators will show whether the agreements become working infrastructure.
