Kazakhstan expects over 5 million tonnes of oilseeds: what has actually been harvested?
The government forecasts a record oilseed crop above 5 million tonnes. As of October 13, farmers had harvested 3.7 million tonnes of oilseeds and 23 million tonnes of grain. The distinction between an achieved harvest and a forecast matters, as do storage, processing and transport after the fields are cleared.
Kazakhstan’s harvest is nearing completion: 96% of grain and legume acreage had been harvested by October 13, producing 23 million tonnes of grain. Deputy Agriculture Minister Azat Sultanov said 3.7 million tonnes of oilseeds had been collected, compared with 1.4 million tonnes at the same point last year.
The ministry expects the final oilseed crop to exceed 5 million tonnes. That is a forecast for the end of the harvest, not a volume already in storage. Weather in the remaining weeks, crop quality and storage losses can still alter the result.
Gross agricultural output reached 7.3 trillion tenge over nine months, up 5.8% in comparable prices. Crop production rose 7.6% and livestock production 3.5%. Kostanay and North Kazakhstan were among the regions with stronger growth.
For farmers and cooking-oil buyers, field output is only part of the story. Drying capacity, storage, processing, logistics and contracts determine how much of a large crop reaches the market and at what cost. A record harvest alone cannot predict the retail price.
