Konaev cheese plant: 40,900 tonnes is a target, not current output
The factory under construction expects to buy 91,700 tonnes of milk a year. What might farmers and shoppers gain?
Kazakhstan’s Baiterek holding reported on 19 October that construction continues at the Sofood Kaz cheese plant in Konaev. Crews are erecting metal structures and working on the roof. Its designed annual capacity is 40,920 tonnes of cheese. The factory has not opened, so the figure is a target rather than current production.
At full capacity, the project estimates annual demand for 91,700 tonnes of raw milk, planned mainly from farms in Almaty and Zhetisu regions. It envisages 400 permanent jobs. Roughly half of output is intended for the domestic market and up to 50% for export.
For farmers, purchase prices, quality requirements and long-term contracts matter as much as volume. For shoppers, the questions are price and availability of the finished product. Baiterek’s announcement provided neither those terms nor a launch date. The next verifiable milestones are completion, commissioning and actual purchases of local milk.
