Nobel week starts 5 October: the full announcement schedule

The 2026 Nobel Prize laureates will begin to be announced on 5 October. Over eight days, the prizes in medicine, physics, chemistry, literature, peace and economics will be revealed. Here is the official Stockholm timetable, where to watch and why pre-announcement candidate lists remain speculation.

The first announcement is on 5 October

Nobel week 2026 begins on Monday, 5 October, with the prize in physiology or medicine. The announcement will come no earlier than 11:30 Central European Summer Time. Every announcement will be streamed on the official Nobel Prize website.

The full schedule

  • 5 October, 11:30 — physiology or medicine;
  • 6 October, 11:45 — physics;
  • 7 October, 11:45 — chemistry;
  • 8 October, 13:00 — literature;
  • 9 October, 11:00 — peace;
  • 12 October, 11:45 — economic sciences.

Why there is no reliable winners list beforehand

Nominations and committee deliberations are confidential, so lists of “leading candidates” remain media or expert predictions. A result is verified only when the relevant Nobel committee announces it. The official broadcast also provides the first concise explanation of why the laureate’s work was selected.
