UN climate reports say national pledges remain insufficient

Three reports examine national plans, implementation transparency and climate adaptation.

The UN climate secretariat released three reports on national climate plans, implementation transparency and adaptation on 27 October. They find that governments are incorporating climate policy more broadly into economic decisions, but overall progress remains insufficient.

The reports say 127 new national contributions representing 154 parties to the Paris Agreement were registered from the start of 2024 through August 2026. Current pledges are projected to reduce global emissions by around 6% by 2035 compared with 2019. This is a projection, not a reduction already achieved.
