WMO reports record greenhouse gas concentrations in 2025

Its new bulletin puts last year’s global average carbon dioxide level at 426.8 parts per million.

The World Meteorological Organization released its greenhouse gas bulletin on 27 October. It reports that the global average surface concentration of carbon dioxide reached 426.8 parts per million in 2025, or 153% of the pre-industrial level in 1750.

Methane and nitrous oxide concentrations also reached new highs. The WMO notes that carbon dioxide remains in the atmosphere for a long time, so its accumulation affects the climate for decades and centuries. The 426.8 figure is for 2025, not a current measurement for 2026.
