69 unsafe apartment blocks and 673 people waiting: Kyzylorda’s housing challenge
Regional housing officials report 69 apartment buildings certified unsafe. Some 673 people are registered for replacement of their only unsafe home; the 2026 budget provides for the purchase of 135 flats. What do those figures actually show? Experts have classified 69 apartment buildings in Kazakhstan’s Kyzylorda region as unsafe.
Experts have classified 69 apartment buildings in Kazakhstan’s Kyzylorda region as unsafe. Sixty-three are in the regional capital and six are in three districts. The regional energy and housing department provided the figures to Kazinform. For residents, rehousing is a safety question rather than simply a matter of comfort.
How long is the queue?
A total of 673 people are registered for replacement of their only unsafe home. Officials say the 2026 budget sets aside 1.7 billion tenge to buy 135 flats. Comparing 673 people directly with 135 flats would be misleading: one flat may house several family members. The public figures alone cannot establish when everyone will be rehoused.
The department says 135 flats were handed over in March 2025 and three unsafe buildings were demolished. That shows activity, but does not identify which remaining buildings will be addressed next.
Beyond the unsafe buildings
Of the region’s 1,505 apartment blocks, 601 need major repairs. That is a separate category: a building in need of repair is not necessarily officially unsafe. A public address list, inspection findings, queue and purchasing timetable would make it possible to track what happens to individual families.
