Pavlodar readies 334 road vehicles for winter, with 94 snowdrift hotspots left

Pavlodar Region said on 14 October that it had prepared 334 specialised vehicles and engaged 36 contractors for winter maintenance of 3,852 kilometres of local roads. The budget is 2.3 billion tenge, and the administration says around 10,000 tonnes of anti-icing material have been stocked.

The remaining risk

Summer work reduced the number of stretches prone to snowdrifts from 115 to 94, according to the administration. That is progress, but those 94 places still need close attention during storms. The region has also prepared 186 warming points and 11,700 linear metres of snow barriers.

Before a trip

Check road-service alerts and whether your route is actually open before intercity travel in poor weather. Equipment on standby does not guarantee safe passage at the height of a blizzard. The first major snowfall will be a practical test of the preparations.
