NASA confirms next stage for ultraviolet UVEX telescope
Following a project review, the agency plans to launch by January 2031.
NASA announced on 27 October that its UVEX space telescope passed the technical and programmatic review known as KDP-C. The agency committed to a launch by January 2031 and a total lifecycle cost of $590 million.
UVEX is designed to survey the entire sky in ultraviolet light, helping scientists study how stars and galaxies evolve. Its ability to turn quickly will also let it observe flashes following neutron-star mergers. The announcement confirms a project milestone; the spacecraft has not yet launched.
