Kazakhstan’s 2026 harvest reaches 18.6 million tonnes from 81.5% of fields

What happened

By 26 September, Kazakhstan’s farmers had harvested 81.5% of the area planted with grain and legume crops. They collected 18.6 million tonnes from 12.7 million hectares, with an average yield of 14.6 centners per hectare. These are operational figures, not the final result of the season.

The scale of the campaign

Total planted area reached 24.2 million hectares in 2026, up 600,000 hectares from the previous year. Grain occupies 15.6 million hectares, oilseeds 5.2 million and fodder crops 3 million. Farmers have collected 2.2 million tonnes of oilseeds from 2.2 million hectares, as well as 2.9 million tonnes of vegetables, 2.5 million tonnes of potatoes and 2.3 million tonnes of melons.

The campaign involves 130,000 tractors, 29,000 combines, 17,000 reapers and another 130,000 units of machinery. The figures reveal both the size of the crop and the pressure on drying, storage, rail capacity and export logistics.

What matters next

The next decisive indicators are the pace of completing the harvest, grain quality after processing and storage losses. A large gross crop does not automatically mean high farm income: grain class, purchase prices, fuel, credit and transport costs all matter.

The 18.6 million tonnes are therefore a strong interim result that still must be converted into food, processing inputs and export revenue.
