ISS crew bioprints vessel tissue and prepares for spacewalk

Crew members operated a bioprinter, checked a spacesuit and practised using robotic arms.

The International Space Station crew continued a vascular-tissue bioprinting experiment on 22 October. NASA said Luke Delaney prepared cells and loaded the mixture into the BioFabrication Facility, while Anil Menon supported subsequent cultivation of the samples.

This is tissue research, not an announcement of transplant-ready organs. Crew members also checked Joshua Kutryk’s spacesuit fit and trained to operate Canadarm2 and the European robotic arm.

Menon and Kutryk are scheduled to install a roll-out solar array during a spacewalk on 29 October. The cover shows earlier ground training in Houston, rather than the crew’s orbital activities on 22 October.
