ISS crew checks spacesuits ahead of solar-array spacewalks

Astronauts are preparing for spacewalks on 29 October and 5 November while continuing plant-cell research.

On 21 October, NASA astronaut Anil Menon and Canadian Space Agency astronaut Joshua Kutryk prepared suits and tools in the International Space Station’s Quest airlock. Their spacewalks are scheduled for 29 October and 5 November.

They are due to install a pair of roll-out solar arrays on the station’s truss. NASA says completing the array programme could increase station power generation by up to 30%. On Wednesday, the crew checked tethers, helmets, communications and medical monitoring gear; suit-fit verification was scheduled for the following day.

Menon also processed green algae and tobacco-cell samples for a study of plant-cell division in microgravity. The NASA cover photo was taken during Menon’s earlier spacewalk on 25 August 2026 and is used here as an archival illustration.
