Crew-12 returns to Earth after nearly eight months on the ISS: NASA’s photo
Crew Dragon Freedom splashed down off California with four crew members aboard. NASA has published a photograph of the return. NASA published a photograph on 8 October showing Crew Dragon Freedom just before splashdown in the Pacific Ocean off California. Aboard were NASA astronauts Jessica Meir and Jack Hathaway, ESA astronaut Sophie Adenot and Roscosmos cosmonaut Andrey Fedyaev.
The return
NASA published a photograph on 8 October showing Crew Dragon Freedom just before splashdown in the Pacific Ocean off California. Aboard were NASA astronauts Jessica Meir and Jack Hathaway, ESA astronaut Sophie Adenot and Roscosmos cosmonaut Andrey Fedyaev. The agency says the four spent nearly eight months on the International Space Station.
The photograph shows deployed parachutes and the descending capsule. It is an image of the actual event released by NASA, not a reconstruction or an AI-generated scene. Splashdown ends the multinational crew’s long stay in orbit; medical checks and readaptation to life on Earth follow.
Why the detail matters
Coverage of a spacecraft return can blur the difference between leaving orbit, deploying parachutes and actually reaching the water. NASA’s frame shows the final descent, while its accompanying report confirms the crew and return area. Results of particular experiments should be checked in mission reports rather than inferred from this photograph.
