World Space Week begins today: why 2026 is the year of the 'Rocket Revolution'

World Space Week 2026 runs from 4 to 10 October. This year's theme is “Rocket Revolution”: reusable stages, lower launch costs and more frequent access to orbit. The change matters beyond aerospace, opening new paths for schools, science, communications and smaller organisations.

Space Week starts on 4 October

World Space Week begins today, running each year from 4 to 10 October. The official 2026 theme is Rocket Revolution, reflecting rapid changes in launch technology and access to orbit.

What has changed in rockets

Reusable stages, higher launch frequency and competition are gradually lowering the cost of sending payloads into space. Universities, smaller companies and more countries can now pursue communications, Earth-observation and science missions that were once limited to the largest programmes.

A week for schools and the public

The official site displays tens of thousands of events across more than 100 countries, including lectures, sky observations, school projects, exhibitions and meetings with engineers. For a student, the theme is an entry point to physics, mathematics, programming and electronics: a rocket shows how equations become a working system under strict limits of mass, energy and safety.
