Hear speech in meaningful chunks

Where we are on the map

Trace the four nodes with a finger. Hide the diagram and recover only facts you actually heard. The colours mark message roles; they do not imply every sentence contains four special words.

A real situation

Your group is preparing a neighbourhood map. A partner says the day’s plan without pausing after every word. You need the three actions in order, not every syllable.

Listen and respond

Listen: Алдымен кітапханаға барамыз. — First we go to the library.

Listen: Содан кейін картаны қараймыз. — Then we look at the map.

Listen: Түстен кейін жолды тексереміз. — In the afternoon we check the route.

Listen: Соңында нәтижені көрсетеміз. — Finally we show the result.

Listen: Қайда алдымен барамыз? — Where do we go first?

Listen: Кітапханаға, содан кейін алаңға барамыз. — To the library, then to the square.

How to practise

First play the recordings with the transcript covered and state only the main meaning. On a second pass note anchor words; on a third, check the written lines. Do not let reading replace listening. Repeat the whole phrase at a natural pace instead of spelling every letter aloud. If the first pass leaves a gap, keep the main point and fill one missing detail on the next pass.

The precise model

Connected speech does not pause after every word. Listen for алдымен, содан кейін and соңында: they divide a plan into steps. Note the action and place of each step; clarify any missed word later.

The support signal

АЛДЫМЕН → СОДАН КЕЙІН → ТҮСТЕН КЕЙІН → СОҢЫНДА

The limit of the rule

A pause can help practice, but its length varies in real speech. Do not invent a new step merely because you heard a place name.

Predict before the explanation

Before reading the explanation, predict what the message is about and which fact your partner will need. Then compare your prediction with the recording and find one exact sound or word that changed your conclusion.

Rebuild it without the prompt

Hide the text and map. Sketch four support nodes in one minute, say a line from memory, and tell a partner which conclusion follows from it and which would be a guess.

Find and repair the mistake

A learner treats содан кейін as a place and reverses the order. Identify the connector and restore the library, map and route check.

Transfer to a new setting

A new voice gives a reversed route: square first, library next. Rebuild the three steps without relying on the familiar order.

Change to the My World project

Add an audio-message card to My World 2.0: verified fact, unknown detail, follow-up question and confirmed answer. Use fictional names and locations. Add a three-action spoken route and the partner-checked order to the project.

Exercise

Listen twice with the text hidden. Draw three boxes and write one action in each, then retell the plan. A partner swaps two steps; can you detect the change?

Retrieval after 1, 7, and 30 days

• Tomorrow listen once and reconstruct the four nodes without text.
• After seven days use the technique with a new recording containing a different time, place or object.
• After thirty days retell what you heard to someone else and ask them to check its accuracy.
